Ruthenium Oxide Nanotubes Via Template Electrosynthesis

2011

Ruthenium oxide nanotubes were fabricated by a single-step galvanostatic deposition using porous anodic alumina membrane as template. For the electrodeposition process, we used a electrochemical cell specifically designed in order to employ only 0.5 ml of 0.02 M RuCl3•xH2O solution. The deposition from a very small volume was specifically addressed owing to the high cost of ruthenium compounds, which could be of some relevance from an applicative point of view. Several techniques were used to characterize the samples prior to and after thermal treatment, which was carried out at different temperatures in order to study the crystallization process of the deposit. Raman spectroscopy of as-dep…

Effect of temperature on the growth of alfa-PbO2 nanostructures

2010

Abstract Ordered arrays of α-PbO 2 nanostructures were grown by galvanostatic anodic deposition into the channels of alumina templates. Electrodepositions were performed in an aqueous solution containing lead acetate and sodium acetate at pH 5.4. Bath temperature and electrodeposition time were varied to check their effect on the growth of nanostructures. It has been found that filling of alumina pores is independent of the time and electrodeposition temperature, whilst height and growth kinetics of nanostructures vary with both parameters. Temperature greatly influences morphology: wires grown at room temperature consisted of clusters of particles, leading to poorly compact structures, whi…

Characterization of the defect density states in MoOx for c-Si solar cell applications

2021

Thin layers of MoOx have been deposited by thermal evaporation followed by post-deposition annealing. The density of states distributions of the MoOx films were extracted deconvoluting the absorption spectra, measured by a photothermal deflection spectroscopy setup, including the small polaron contribution. Results revealed a sub-band defect distribution centered 1.1 eV below the conduction band; the amplitude of this distribution was found to increase with post-deposition annealing temperature and film thickness.

Stable two -dimensional spatial solitons in heavy metal oxide glasses

2007

In this Communication, a stable self-confined propagation with ps near-infrared (NIR) pulses and over several Rayleigh lengths is demonstrated for the first time . Multiphoton absorption is shown to saturate the self-focusing response in a novel glass of the ternary system Nb2O5-O2-PbO (NPG) exhibiting a high refractive index (2-2.1) in the NIR and an energy gap of 3.52 eV. NPG belongs to the family of heavy metal oxides, widely studied for its fast and high nonlinearity in the infrared.

Application of 2D Non-Graphene Materials and 2D Oxide Nanostructures for Biosensing Technology

2016

The discovery of graphene and its unique properties has inspired researchers to try to invent other two-dimensional (2D) materials. After considerable research effort, a distinct "beyond graphene" domain has been established, comprising the library of non-graphene 2D materials. It is significant that some 2D non-graphene materials possess solid advantages over their predecessor, such as having a direct band gap, and therefore are highly promising for a number of applications. These applications are not limited to nano- and opto-electronics, but have a strong potential in biosensing technologies, as one example. However, since most of the 2D non-graphene materials have been newly discovered,…

Structural, electronic, and electrical properties of an Undoped n-Type CdO thin film with high electron concentration

2014

Transparent conducting metal oxides (TCOs) combine the properties of optical transparency in the visible region with a high electrical conductivity. They are a critical component as the window electrode in liquid crystal and electroluminescent display devices, as well as in many designs of solar cells now under development. Sn-doped In2O3 is currently the most important TCO, but it suffers from some drawbacks. These include the high cost of indium, weak optical absorption in the blue-green region, as well as chemical instability that leads to corrosion phenomena in organic light-emitting devices. Indium tin oxide (ITO) films are also brittle and of relatively low durability. A number of oth…

FRUIT QUALITY EVALUATION OF FOUR LOQUAT CULTIVARS GROWN IN SICILY

2011

Chemical (soluble solids content, titratable acidity, pH), morphological (weight, longitudinal and transversal diameter, thickness of the flesh, number of seeds, peel colour), and sensorial characteristics of four loquat cultivars (‘Algerie’, ‘Claudia’, ‘Nespolone di Trabia’ and ‘Sanfilippara’) from mature, organically-grown trees in Sicily, were analysed. The determinations were carried out by traditional instrumental techniques, by a panel test and by an electronic olfactory system. A panel of 10 trained judges was used to determine intensity of some attributes in the sensory profile of the different cultivars, while the electronic olfactory system was used to identify possible difference…
